Stephanie Benedetto Leads the Charge on Deadstock

Stephanie Benedetto is leading the industry in circular fashion as the co-founder of Queen of Raw, an award-winning software that takes action on excess inventory, measures, and reports, and turns pollution into profit. This week, Benedetto joins a CFDA webinar on designing with deadstock to share her insights on the current landscape of this market and the opportunities and benefits of working with excess fabric.

What prompted you to start your business, Queen of Raw?

I had a factory and saw firsthand the massive amount of waste and breaks in complex supply chains. There are valuable resources sitting in warehouses collecting dust or being burned or sent for combustion. And organizations all over the world are looking for access to these materials. I realized this is just a supply-demand mismatch and we could use technology to bridge the gap, across industries and around the world. I left my job as a Wall Street attorney to tackle the problem head on and to build a solution for people, planet, and profit!

Can all brands (big or small) begin using deadstock as part of their design practices?

There is no company too big or too small to take advantage of integrating rescued fabrics into their designs – or to sell excess inventory that is no longer needed. We have large enterprise clients with millions of meters of high-quality materials which match well with other large brands looking to create entire deadstock collections. And we have smaller designers looking to create limited edition deadstock pieces but can’t commit to large, expensive orders.

Leveraging our proprietary software, Materia MX, they can get access to what they need, when they need it and drive the project from start to finish!

Realizing that all change is good change, we also offer a more basic membership in our software and network for smaller businesses who are looking to sell or purchase excess inventory but don’t need comprehensive ESG reporting or global supply chain integrations and inventory management.

Verusen Launches AI-Powered Supplier App

Verusen announced the launch of its AI-powered “Trusted Supply” application, enabling industrial distributors, integrators and suppliers to maximize visibility into customer demand to grow revenue and improve network resiliency for their customers.

Data for the materials used throughout industrial supply chains is dirty, incomplete and inconsistent as it passes through end-user and supplier systems. The traditional solution has always been data cleansing for multiple siloed applications and manual processes that cost all parties too much time, money, and risk.

Verusen’s Trusted Supply is an application purpose-built for suppliers featuring natural language AI models to enable suppliers to respond more effectively to customer needs, regardless of system or data quality. Today, the offering is designed to streamline the RFx process, exponentially improving the match rate for materials requested by customers and prospects, enabling suppliers to respond in hours instead of weeks.

Future enhancements to Trusted Supply focus on improving efficiency and enhancing revenue generation with key areas of development including:

  • Real-time exchange of demand signals with customers
  • Tail spend optimization and contract compliance
  • Collaborative planning capabilities between suppliers and their buyers

“Entering our third year in market supporting dozens of F500 manufacturers and generating hundreds of millions in savings opportunities for them, we recognized that the next evolution of supply optimization is to simplify buyer-supplier collaboration to build resilient supply networks,” said Paul J. Noble, Verusen founder and chief strategy officer. “Speed and scale wins. I’m proud that today, Trusted Supply will help remove the friction from the RFx process and that in the future, Trusted Supply will enable real-time collaboration between suppliers and their customers, eliminating data dependent manual processes to make it easier to buy, easier to sell and reduce risk across the supply chain.”

SAP Startup Spotlight: Zoovu

E3zine has selected the most exciting companies to showcase in our SAP Startup Spotlight Series. In this article, we will take a look at Zoovu, which is now an SAP industry Cloud Solution Partner.

Lamees Butt is the SVP Of Global Alliances and Channels at Zoovu where she spearheads strategic technology partnerships and relationships. She has over 10 years of experience in shepherding digital transformation efforts and forging partnerships at companies like Mercedes-Benz UK, Salesforce, and Zoovu. Butt’s passion for innovation in the digital space focuses on the belief that when technology is leveraged strategically, its ability to create value for businesses and their customers is truly transformative. She is based out of London, UK.

What is Zoovu and what do you offer?

Zoovu is an AI discovery platform and the future of B2B selling.

Historically, B2B organizations sell their complex product SKUs sets directly through sales representatives or account managers—most organizations are still operating in this 1:1 framework that is frankly outdated for today’s digital-first buyers. This process is limiting and not scalable in a world where we are being asked to do more with less, and buyers expect a better overall customer experience that is not just customer-centric, but digitally driven.

Zoovu intelligently augments this process by digitizing the sales process. Our platform connects multiple data sources from the back office to transform technical product information into customer-centric content to power discovery through guided selling and configuration conversations across commerce channels. These experiences empower B2B customers to purchase autonomously without compromising on compliance, regulations, or precision.

Zoovu drives cost saving efficiencies, unlocks revenue in commerce, and boosts cart value by automating cross selling and upselling by improving product visibility.

We are headquartered in Boston, USA, with offices across Europe in the UK, Germany, Austria, Poland, and Belgium, enabling us to serve over 2,500 customers worldwide and their 10,000+ experiences.

How does your solution work?

A SaaS cloud platform that connects to the back-office product content to ingest, enrich, and unify to power a series of humanized discovery conversations on the front-end commerce platforms.

How are you connected to SAP? Can your solution be integrated in SAP systems and if so, how?

We are in an economic climate that’s asking us to do more with less and the reality is that investing in the right strategies will be in the difference between success and failure. SAP has a strong set of foundational operational platforms like S/4 Hana, Commerce Cloud, Sales Cloud, and the full CX suite. Zoovu’s platform is able to unlock the technical product content stored on these platforms and transform them into future-ready experiences.

Businesses are looking for ways to digitize their selling capabilities but need the technology to do so without disrupting operations. This is especially true in the B2B space—it is ripe for transformation as its buyers and sellers are part of generations that expect digital–first solutions in their work life. SAP and Zoovu together are the glue to these businesses to a place where they can deliver B2B sales experiences that are needed to succeed in today’s climate.  SAP is the choice for B2B organizations and Zoovu is the perfect partner to accelerate digital transformation alongside their existing infrastructure.

The Single Most Important Ingredient For Effective Digital Marketing

Be honest, to find the product you’re looking for, would you rather scroll through thousands of images and lines of text or take a fun personality quiz? If you’re as curious and competitive as most people are, you’ll click on the quiz because everyone loves personalized experiences. In fact, startup Jebbit is counting on it. This cloud-based platform helps digital marketers create interactive content to keep customers interested and spark sales.

“We’re seeing the emergence of a fluid customer journey that flattens the marketing funnel and puts control in the hands of the consumer,” said Tom Coburn, CEO and co-founder of Jebbit. “Using our platform, brand marketers are providing a relevant and personalized experience that guides the consumer to the path of purchase. By asking people about their preferences, interests, and motivations, brands generate high-quality leads and increased sales.”

Jebbit’s clients are primarily consumer brands in sectors such as CPG, retail, financial services, travel, quick service restaurants, and media and entertainment. Companies typically grow lead capture rates by 30% to 50%. Brand websites have expanded sales between 10% to 30%.

“One running shoe company used a personality quiz to find out about the exercise habits of customers as they joined the loyalty program,” said Coburn. “It’s a consumer-friendly way to welcome people and get to know them instead of an impersonal email.”

On average, brands see an 85% completion rate for every experience.

Ivaldi Launches ChatGPT Digital Assistant for Troubleshooting & On-Demand Ordering

Ivaldi Group unveils a ChatGPT-enabled troubleshooting and on-demand ordering solution for maintenance teams. This AI-driven digital assistant simplifies maintenance operations, enabling faster access to crucial spare parts.

Ivaldi’s custom ChatGPT integration allows secure equipment data and maintenance documentation to be indexed and accessed through an AI assistant. Maintenance crews can engage in custom dialogues with the AI system for tailored information, eliminating the need for physical manuals or online document searches.

The platform also facilitates ordering replacement components directly through the interface. If a part is not already in the Ivaldi virtual library, users can submit 2D drawings or simple sketches, which the system converts into custom-generated models within pre-engineered categories. Once approved, Ivaldi then creates a printable 3D model and coordinates production and delivery with its partner network of 15,000 local manufacturers.

Espen Sivertsen, Ivaldi CEO, highlights the benefits: “Over eleven billion dollars were lost last year due to spare parts shortages. At SAP.iO, we work with innovative people and new technologies that positively impact our world every day, and we think it’s time to share their stories with you! In our series, “Inspiring Innovators,” we get to hear how leaders of cutting-edge startup technologies overcame, thrived, and pursued their goals. SAP.iO’s Alexa Gorman sat down to discuss the road to success and lessons learned with some of our most inspiring startup founders.

Meet Agnes Wun

Over the last year, we’ve had an opportunity to focus on some of the inspiring innovators we work with here at SAP.iO. We’ve learned that these leaders come from various backgrounds, and the path to entrepreneurship is never quite the same. For Agnes Wun, she had 14 years of work experience before she launched Neufast. As we discussed her path to co-founder and CEO of Neufast, we discovered that she worked hard using what she was passionate about to inform her next steps and solve the problem.

After graduating with an electrical engineering degree, Agnes joined ABB where she designed digital control systems for power plants. From there, she joined the Labor and Welfare Bureau of the Hong Kong Government, where she learned to hone her communication and project management skills. Although Agnes was proud to help improve mental health awareness in Hong Kong during this time, she had always dreamed of studying at Imperial College, and so she did. At Imperial College in London, she obtained a MSc degree in applied mathematics and met her Neufast co-founder Dr. Dennis Lee culminating in the launch of their new company.

Neufast is a data-driven online video interview platform where you set up, invite, and conduct online interviews. These interview videos are analyzed using AI technology for their facial, vocal, and textual information, which produces a competency report for each candidate. Neufast’s clients are achieving an 80% reduction in cost-per-hire and hiring managers can customize job requirements in 27 competencies. Some organizations that use Neufast’s HR technology include McDonald’s, Carlsberg, Crystal Group, Esquel, Tessellation, and Lensowheel to just name a few.

The Inspiring Women Behind Digital Innovations on SAP Store

In the bestselling novel Lessons in Chemistry, set in California circa 1961, the protagonist is a female scientist who faces down disrespect, denigration, and downright discrimination to pursue her passion and put her talents to work. That level of bigotry might be shocking in most societies today. But the goal of reaching gender parity continues to elude us, as illustrated in the new article “Bridging the Digital Gap for Women in Tech,” published to observe this month’s International Women’s Month.

International Women’s Month provides the occasion to take stock of how far we have come and how far we have to go in creating opportunities for women’s advancement in the workplace. And it’s the perfect time to recognize several pioneering women in technology who are defying stereotypes and making enormous contributions in their fields. While women still comprise less than 30% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), these trailblazing entrepreneurs, leaders, and employers are serving as role models to inspire a new generation.

At SAP, we are proud to showcase the products and services of their companies on our digital marketplace, SAP Store. We are also pleased to shine a light on SAP’s commitment to helping women break gender barriers through SAP.iO, the strategic business unit that incubates, accelerates, and scales startup innovation. In fact, the No Boundaries initiative was established with the express purpose of ensuring that innovators from all backgrounds are empowered to start up with SAP. This program is the first comprehensive inclusive entrepreneurship initiative in the business software industry.

Now let’s get acquainted with six of these visionary women.

Lisa Skeete Tatum, Founder & CEO, Landit
If anyone knows the challenges that women and people of color encounter in technology, it’s Lisa Skeete Tatum. Her company, Landit, is dedicated to increasing the success of women and diverse groups in the workplace – and assisting companies in hiring and retaining them. Landit’s solution, Personal Career Pathing, offers a personalized playbook that helps people advance and navigate their careers. Employers are using it to deliver an action-based strategy that increases engagement, upward mobility, retention, and overall performance. Lisa attributes her own success to her board of directors, a family who believed in her, and to being her own best advocate. Personal Career Pathing is available on SAP Store.
Rashi Gupta, Co-Founder and Chief Data Scientist, Rezo.AI
Solving business problems using statistics and machine learning: that’s the primary passion of Dr. Rashi Gupta. A mathematician at heart, she earned a PhD in biometry from the University of Helsinki in Finland, where she discovered great support for women in technology. Returning home to India, she found a way to apply her skills in data mining and complex data sets. Realizing that the most rewarding way to do that would be to start her own company, she co-founded Rezo.AI in 2017. Rezo.AI is an AI-powered cloud solution that transforms the customer experience, improves agent productivity, and operationalizes real-time intelligence. Rezo.AI is available on SAP Store.
Paula Paw, Co-CEO, VersaFleet
A graduate of National University of Singapore with a bachelor’s degree in arts and social sciences, Paula Paw quickly found a job in sales and marketing at VersaFleet – a young company with a young team. Within just a few years, she become co-CEO, a fast-track career path that she attributes to an attitude of determination, a willingness to fail before getting it right, and listening empathetically. VersaFleet software optimizes route plans and fully digitalizes supply chains, providing technology for all transporters in any industry, in any market. VersaFleet Last-mile Transport Management Software is available on SAP Store.
Michelle Bacharach, Founder and CEO, FindMine
Her own experience as a consumer led Michelle Bacharach to invent an AI-powered technology that creates complete outfits around retailers’ products. “Complete the Look” is designed to inspire and inform shoppers, in-store associates, and retail buyers to use and pair products across e-commerce, email, marketing channels, and in store. And they tend to spend more! Michelle had always pictured herself starting her own business, and experience at a tech startup and in corporate strategy and product management gave her the background and the impetus she needed to launch FindMine. The FindMine solution is available on SAP Store.
Neha Singh, Founder, Obsess
A graduate degree in computer science from MIT enabled Neha Singh to develop the right skills to pursue a career leading engineering and product teams, which took her to Google, Vogue, and a luxury e-commerce startup. She’s combined technology expertise with a passion for fashion to create an e-commerce platform designed to make online shopping fun. Obsess Virtual Store Platform leaves the tired old thumbnail grid behind with immersive 3D virtual stores that create an interactive, engaging experience. It replicates an actual store with the sights, sounds, and social experience of real-life shopping. Obsess Virtual Store Platform is available on SAP Store.
Chandralika Hazarika, Co-Founder, Bigthinkx
Bigthinx is a perfect example of a startup that took wing at SAP.iO. Its inspiring innovator is Chandralika Hazarika, who applied 15 years’ tenure in branding and marketing – and experience with her own fashion brand, Velvet Piano – to focus on building digitally empowered brands. An architect by education, she always wanted to do something on the creative side of the business with people. Bigthinx builds software for online fashion retailers, using AI, mobile body scanning, virtual try-ons, and digital twins. The technology creates a 3D body scan for instant apparel size and fit predictions to see how it would look and fit in reality. Check out Lyflike Apparel Fit and Size Predictor by Bigthinx on SAP Store.

SVB gave ‘underestimated’ founders ‘a soft place to land.’ Where do they go now?

After the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, there’s been a lot of talk about the importance of diversification in finance. In the startup world, though, Kange Kaneene says being able to diversify is “a luxury that some people just don’t have.”

“If you’re going to bank after bank and getting told no, it’s hard to diversify,” the vice president for SAP.io Foundries, the software giant startup accelerator in New York, San Francisco, Latin America and the Caribbean, told MarketWatch. Kaneene said Silicon Valley Bank was “a soft place to land” for many startup founders she called “underestimated,” such as women and people of color. The bank launched a program focused on increasing opportunities for underrepresented people in the “innovation economy,” but the future of that is as cloudy as that of the bank itself.

The venture-capital world, already affected by a tech slowdown and other economic worries before the failure of the bank, is now dealing with even more uncertainty that includes possible long-term effects from a banking crisis. The impact could be worse for VCs and startup founders who are women and/or people of color, a category that already saw a low share of venture funding.

Of all venture-capital funding last year, only 1.9% went to female founders, according to data from PitchBook. Usually, less than 2% of VC funding goes to Black entrepreneurs, according to Crunchbase; last year, while overall venture funding declined 36%, funding to Black-led businesses dropped 45%.

Paradox Launches Industry-First Conversational ATS to Revolutionize High-Volume Hiring with Chat- and Text-Driven Automation

Paradox, the conversational hiring software helping global employers like Unilever, Nestle, L’Oreal, CVS Health, and General Motors transform hiring with automation that gets recruiting work done faster, today announced the launch of its Conversational ATS. Designed from the ground-up to completely reimagine the high-volume hiring process, the product obsessively focuses on delivering the best frontline candidate and hiring manager experience in the world.

Underpinned by a conversational UI that makes engagement feel simple and seamless, Paradox’s ATS automates things like screening for requirements, interview scheduling, reminders, offers, new hire onboarding, and more. The product is already helping global clients dramatically reduce time-to-hire to hours or days, instead of weeks — and deliver frictionless experiences that candidates love.

“We didn’t want to build just another ATS — so, we didn’t,” said Paradox founder and CEO Aaron Matos. “Our mission has always been to help our clients get work done faster, so they can spend more time with people, not software. We believe at our core that conversational experiences will become the new enterprise user interface, and this is a step in the right direction in the journey to change that paradigm. “

For companies that partner with large enterprise ERP and HCM platforms like Workday or SAP, Paradox is also launching high-volume solutions built to work alongside those systems — allowing clients to see all the benefits of conversational automation and high-volume hiring, without needing to switch their ATS to see those benefits.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some of Paradox’s clients in our research to understand how conversational software is transforming talent acquisition — and the impact we’ve seen it have on those organizations is truly remarkable,” said Janet Mertens, Senior Vice President of Research at The Josh Bersin Company. “Finding and retaining talent today is a huge challenge for most companies, and using the old tricks isn’t the answer anymore. Paradox is thinking differently about how to solve for the future and helping organizations leverage creative new solutions to address the talent shortage.”
