“Daivergent will be a way for us to go and attract a talent pool that we don’t have right now. It’s more than social good, it’s business good.”Deepak Krishnamurthy, EVP & Chief Strategy Officer, SAP
Innovation is a fundamental part of our DNA at SAP. On May 16–18 at Viva Technology in Paris, “the world’s rendezvous for startups & leaders”, SAP will once again demonstrate its bona fides as a world-wide leader for innovation, when we host 25 startups from the SAP.iO Fund and Foundry portfolios, of which 8 are international.
Serial entrepreneur, So-Young Kang, is reinventing how people learn, with a personalized, mobile experience. Lightyears ahead of yesterday’s content delivery training, the Gnowbe microlearning mobile platform represents Kang’s life work to make learning easy – for as many people as possible. Instead of participant headcounts or feedback scores, Gnowbe measures skills development based on someone’s demonstrable capabilities before and after training. One customer saw improvements of almost 30 percent in the sales behaviors of employees who participated in microlearning modules on Gnowbe.
Gnowbe is among the HR startups participating in the SAP.iO Foundry San Francisco, an accelerator for early-stage enterprise tech companies. Besides mobile microlearning, these startups are using AI-enabled recruiting, and development tools based on behavioral science.

In the United States, 40% of the labor force is employed in hourly wage jobs earning less than $20 an hour. Although these jobs are the foundation of our economy, employers often face high turnover, reaching 100% annually. There is a clear disconnect in how hourly job candidates are being assessed and hired, leading to high job drop-out. This was a problem that seemed ripe for a technological and data-driven solution for the founders of StellarEmploy. StellarEmploy replaces traditional resume and screening questions with a mobile friendly survey that uncovers workers’ underlying preferences.
With StellarEmploy’s survey with 50 questions and an average completion time of 15 minutes, employers can learn applicants’ preference for teamwork compared to solo work, or multi-tasking compared to a more focused work environment. This enables them to understand the prominent characteristics of their workplace and different hourly job categories, all based on empirical data. Now, instead of just crossing their fingers and hoping a new hire stays past the critical 90 day mark, they have the raw materials to understand why a majority of workers fail to engage or perform in the first month.
SAP Customer Experience has closely collaborated with start-ups over the past year, which showed an enormous acceleration in innovation and gave selected SAP CX teams the agility and speed to increase the output of new product pilots significantly. One example is digital search. SAP Customer Experience Labs developed a prototype, called FashionLabs, which allows consumers to take a picture of an item of clothing and then, through visual analysis, shows them similar garments. The IP (intellectual property) for the visual search component in this prototype doesn’t come from SAP, but from a startup (Syte.ai).
SAPPHIRE NOW and ASUG Annual Conference is the most innovative cloud and business technology conference designed for business leaders and IT professionals.
For more than 20 years, Moritz Zimmermann has been an entrepreneur. He helped found Hybris (an omnichannel ecommerce company, acquired by SAP in 2013 for $1.4B USD) right out of university and is a self-professed lover of new technology and the startup culture. Now as Chief Technology Officer for SAP’s Customer Experience business unit and responsible for developing the SAP C/4HANA CRM suite, he’s helping to nurture an innovation ecosystem that will compliment and extend the reach of the suite. With support from Moritz’s team, SAP will open a new startup accelerator in Munich, Germany on May 14 that will invest in young companies focused on customer-experience. The center is part of the SAP.iO Foundries, an SAP-run accelerator which invests in early-stage enterprise startups and has locations in Berlin, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Tel Aviv.
The SAP CX Live conference is coming up in just a few days in Orlando and a lot of exciting things are planned for the show. One of the things I’m most excited about is the Startups Area which will feature a few of the innovative startups that are part of the “innovation ecosystem” that complements and extends our SAP CX solutions.
Together with NextPlay.ai, SAP.iO is excited to start a series of Speed Mentoring for Women at SAP events with the goal to bring women across a variety of disciplines together and provide an opportunity to connect, ask questions and learn from women leaders.
Created in 2013, Energiency noted that industry accounts for 30% of global CO2 emissions, mainly due to the energy consumption of production sites. To better control this, the French startup has developed an artificial intelligence solution that allows plants to optimize their energy expenses.
